View Full Version : Global Agenda, a possible replacment for FF
So, seeing as things have been a bit boring lately, Ive been looking around for another game. while poking around the Steam store I found a combination mmo/fps, its like if you did a modern version of world of warcraft and combined it with tfc. In this game there is a class system like in tfc: assault(soldier/heavy/demo) recon(spy/scout/pyro) medic, and robotics(engineer), and there is a very complex upgrade tree to fully customize your character and equip it with the weapons you want. Being an mmo there is the possibility of a subscription fee, however it is not required, when you buy the game you have fee access to the game and world, you only pay a subscription if you want a more detailed mmo experience. One of the more note-able differences in pay or no pay game experiences is when you pay, you can set up an Agency (clan) semi permanent base that you cooperatively defend and upgrade, on that same coin you have the opportunity to raid other clan basses. Because this is a steam based game we can maintain our current community structure, and if we like it get others involved. There is far more to the game then I am willing to type about, so Ill post these links:

The release date on this game is February 1st, and if you pre-order you get access to the beta in January, I have already pre-ordered, and am looking forward to testing out the concept of a first person shooter in an mmo environment
also here is a page that gives a breakdown of the differences in pay or no pay game play:

As long as you get your ELF HAT, its all good.
I plan to check this out, to be sure.
after realizing at a late time that the first day of open beta was the 7th of January. I hastily tried to download Global Agenda, thing was there is a size difference between the actual game and the beta. After realizing that the beta takes up 50GB instead of 20 I started the long process of downloading, not a fun thing waiting for the game that I have been anticipating greatly. After a few hours, I was finally able to play the game......very cool, I cannot compare this game to other MMO games, as I have not played any others, but I have burned alot of my life playing fps games, and just the tutorial played like a very high quality single player fps. I only had about 45 mins to play, but what I did was run the tutorial and mess around the Dome, as well as run 1 and half PvE missions. So far my first impressions are very good, I had a little bit of jerkiness while playing but it always smoothed out (this might be from the fact that I only have 1 gig of mem) the different classes work well together when on a co-operative mission(medic was very useful at keeping my newbie ass alive when I jumped into the fray), I have so far only tried recon, but jumping around faster then everybody else is very fun. Sadly after 45 minutes the beta was over for the day and they shut down all the servers, I will be back on tomorrow to garner further impressions, and to figure everything out about this very cool looking game.

So I gotta scroll up every time you make a post? Aw fuck you and your game.:cool:
Oh and 417=BITCH:eek:
so, the devs as it turns out forgot to shutdown the servers last night, and I got my first taste of PvP, and I have to say, it was very fun, not horribly original or anything, but very entertaining. PvP gameplay is very much like FF or TF2, they have push style maps, capture point maps, and all the other varieties you have come to expect from a team based game, one interesting thing is, there are no one hit kills, you really got to work for it if you want somebody dead (including snipers). Map times are only about 10 mins or so, making things a bit fast paced, and your game experience is constantly changing, due to leveling up and changing weapons and mods.(oh and btw armor is just for looks in this game, so nobody looks the same)
ok, now that I have played for a bit, I now have a better understanding of what this game truly is. This game is not an MMO in the sense that all you WOW players think of it, it is two games in one, on the one hand the one type purchase version is basically a souped up version of TF2 meet tribes with PvP and PvE, its a very fun game type. The other game type it the subscription side, which is like doing a UGC match every night with the end gains of defending or attacking, you get territory and minerals and such, now this turns into an elaborate version of the board game Risk. I know the idea of a match EVERY night sounds a bit tough, but that's why there is the need for large agencies and alliances, basically you only need to defend or attack at certain times based on the time zone of the zone you pick, so if you have say only 10 people in your agency you can ally your agency with a much larger agency and mutually defend you territories on different nights when players are available. Now the more you win the more territories you get, and the more territories you get the more minerals and such, the end result is you are able to construct war machines and defenses, that enable your agency to become stronger, and better able to grow, and that is the key keep your agency growing and growing. Its all kinda hard to wrap your head around as to why you would do it, but once you start, it becomes very addicting. Back to the start of my post here, this is not an mmo in the sense that you're all used to, there is no vast space to wander or quests to do, just small missions and wars between agencies, but damn its cool
btw here is a link describing in much better detail then what my idiot speak can manage what the subscription play is like (Conquest)

theres 4 classes:
Assault: basically shoot the guys with an over sized gun;
Medic: Heal your team m8s and attack with aids;
Recon: Go invisible and assrape people
Robotics: make other shit to give em hell for you!
From what ive found Medic and Robotics are awesome, ima try Recon as well.

So what about server side? Is that all internet? Does one client just create a world and you bounce from there?
