I have sent out mailers and posted on SMK's Steam page. I want to get the word out to all those that have called SMK's Server home or called SMK friends. It has been a great 7 years at this.
This is the post I have posted... Read below...
Well, what to say to you all.
I will start off with THANK YOU for the years of friendship and gaming. You may be asking your self why I am I getting this email? Whats going on Lizard? I have been considering this for over a year now. I am going to be shutting down the SMK Public Killin Grounds on our Birthday this year, Sept 2009.
It has been one oops, bad word of a run at this. We have spent a tremendous amount of money and time keeping the Grounds alive. I told you all I would keep a TFC server up till it was just not played anymore. Well in this last year I have been watching the stats and noting that in our heyday we had over 3000 people entering the server every month, and as of recent years there has been a major decline in player base. I had to go to compiling the bot kills in through out the month, just to get names to appear before the 15th. We are down to about 300 people entering the server per month. Looking at the stats only a small handful of SMK enters the stats. I myself have made a point to get my name in the stats each month.
I will not leave our patrons empty handed. I have been in contact with Cul8r over at DOM http://www.defendersofmorality.com and informed him of my plans. I am going to begin glowing on the server a recommendation for our player base to begin playing on DOM’s TFC server. It is modeled after SMK Public with hook, bots and settings that are identical to SMK. There server is located in Texas, centered in the US for an even-ping to all east and west coast. I myself will begin playing there at least one time a week in order for my name to enter there stats.
The SMK website and forum. They both will stay alive. I have no intention of shutting SMK down completely, only our server. I purchased a Ventrilo server a couple months ago.
